First off, I don’t care if this is a non Hip Hop or R&B related post. The lead singer from the 90′s boy band LFO, Rich Cronin (the guy on the left in the picture), passed away today (September 8th) from a suffering a stroke in the hospital after battling leukemia for many years. If you don’t remember, Rich Cronin is the one who wrote LFO’s hit single “Summer Girls”. Time to bust out my LFO CD from my teenage years.. R.I.P. Rich Cronin

For BET’s annual hip hop awards show, Ice Cube and his sons were selected to enter the cypher with Rev Run and his rhyming sons. Cube took to his blog to touch on the upcoming battle (the ceremony will air October 12th):

Last night I stood on a roof in Brooklyn wit my 2 sons (OMG & Doughboy) and the “King of Rock” Rev. Run wit his 2 sons (Diggy & Jo Jo) and we did the BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher. We killed it.

Me and Run had 16 bars and our boys had 8 bars a piece. We had DJ Premier on the wheels and it was a beautiful night.

Ya’ll don’t understand. I was a straight fan last night. I grew up on Run-DMC and having a chance to do a cypher wit the legendary DJ Run was a bucket list moment for ya’ boy. It was all love of course and we talked about a line he said in ’83 that set it all off, “If you say you heard my rhymes we’re gonna have to fight, Cause I just made the mothafuckas up last night!” Now that’s hip-hop.
